Tom Cruise must have advised Glen Powell, at one point in time, to reject the idea of competing with any other leading man, at one of his secret movie star lessons. The Twisters star quickly responded to a piece from TheWrap that praised his increasing box office success in a post on Twitter/X this afternoon, even as he directed a somewhat ludicrous jab at Ryan Gosling.
The original report stated, "Glen Powell is most definitely an up-and-coming movie star in the sense that audiences go to movies to see him," citing the unexpectedly large and impressive box office receipts for Twisters and Anyone But You, which Powell starred in alongside Sydney Sweeney in 2023. The source, an unidentified producer, continued, "Glen appeals to both female and male audiences, unlike an actor like Ryan Gosling whose appeal is mostly limited to female audiences."
Clearly, this oversimplifies everything about Ryan Gosling. Barbie, a movie that a lot of people probably viewed because of Ryan Gosling and his Ken-ergy, has made news throughout the world for its enormously successful box office run. Not to mention filmmakers like Denis Villeneuve and Nicolas Winding Refn who have been using him in prestigious movies for decades, even Martin Scorsese is a huge fan of the man. Powell is well aware of this. "A legend is Ryan Gosling. The actor replied, "I'm just Glen," to a post that referenced an article from TheWrap. Over, beach fight.
Furthermore, Powell already has much too much on his plate to become involved in arbitrary Hollywood feuds. He's appearing in Edgar Wright's upcoming The Running Man adaptation, which will start filming in November after receiving the go-ahead from Paramount (also via TheWrap). In addition, he just signed on to work on an unidentified J.J. Abrams movie with Jenna Ortega. He is now working on the A24 thriller Huntington, as well as the mystery surrounding the Chad Powers makeup trailer. Powell wouldn't have time to fight with Gosling even if he wanted to between all of that, parenting his new dog/son Brisket, and dancing to Charli xcx with Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos on TikTok.
